Is LegalZoom legit?
redditby HelenDeborah5051 week ago3 points

Hi everyone, I’m looking for some honest Reddit advice. I’ve been working on a tiny business venture on and off for the last few years and I’m finally ready to get it off the ground. It's an online store for buying and reselling based in California. I’m a bit unsure about the exact documents required to start a business here. The admin side of things is incredibly boring and feels totally overwhelming. I’ve been looking at LegalZoom because they claim to simplify the whole process, but I’m seeing a lot of terms I don’t fully understand. They recommend a ton of different products and add-ons (which makes sense, they’re a business), but I can’t tell what is actually necessary versus what is just an optional upsell. I’m wondering if it’s worth the $250+ to have them handle all the filings for me, or if I should just tough it out and try to handle everything myself. I’ve seen a lot of older posts saying the platform was clunky and a headache to navigate, but most of those are from 4+ years ago. I’m attracted to the price point compared to a private lawyer, but I want to know has anyone used them in the last year or so for forming an LLC, or maybe for contracts/wills? Has the platform actually improved, or is it still a mess? Am I better off going with a local attorney or a different online service entirely?
